We’re One Month Old!

It has officially been a month since I started my fashion/lifestyle blogging venture!!! And I must say that it’s been such a fun and eye opening experience! In my naïve, pre-blogging stages I didn’t realize that it is more like a full-time job. I thought that this creative outlet was just that: a creative outlet. Little did I  know that blogging is actually about creating a brand and a business! So here I was… thinking that I would just throw some outfits together and post about them on a weekly basis. But now I’m finding myself (and my inner ‘girl boss’) pitching to boutiques and creative professionals, researching marketing strategies, and collaborating with other fashion bloggers. I’ve loved every second of it! And I’m pretty sure I missed my calling as an entrepreneur (never too late though!).

So in this first month I’ve collaborated with multiple boutiques, grown my brand following, and joined Style Collective, an online community of fashion/lifestyle bloggers that have provided amazing resources! The blogging and fashion community is such a tight knit group that strives to eliminate competition and is so focused on working together to create a powerful impact on its followers. I’ve also noticed that most of these businesses and creative professionals are working to not only bring you the latest styles and trends but to also use their influence to help the community as well!

The fashion magazine, The Volk, is one of these companies that uses their brand to raise money and awareness for the Allina Mental Health facilities. And… You are currently looking at one of their newest fashion journalists!!!! I was approached earlier this week by fashion editor-in-chief, Meghanlee, to join The Volk and provide information on the latest and greatest styles of the season! I cannot wait to expand my horizons and be a part of something so big! I’ve been following The Volk for the past few years when I was dabbling in modeling (I know, I’ve literally done everything) and their work has skyrocketed to becoming some of the best that I’ve seen! So of course, I had to jump at this opportunity!

All in all, this first month has been crazy but I’m just getting started! Thank you to those that have been following my work and supporting me!!!!

Sincerely

What to Wear For Your Engagement Photos

If you’ve taken the time to click on this post then first of all, congratulations!! Getting engaged is such an exciting time in your life and, of course, you want everything to run as smoothly as possible. The last thing you should stress about is your engagement photos because it should be a time to focus and truly capture the relationship between you and your significant other.

I’m currently a part of a Facebook brides group and I realized that there were a lot of ladies asking for fashion advice so what better way to kick off my last month of being engaged than to share with you some of my engagement photo fashion tips. Plus it’s another chance to show off my engagement photos before I’m able to start over-sharing my wedding photos!

-First and foremost, this shoot is about the both of you! Don’t feel like your engagement photos should reflect something that could grace the cover of Vogue. If you’re both quirky or silly that’s fine! Let your photos reflect that.

-My suggestion is to have at least one formal (or dressier) look and one casual look during your time with your photographer.

-Keep your partner in more neutral colors. This gives you more leeway with what you can do with your outfits. I know it’s not just all about you but you are the bride-to-be and this is the time for you to stand out!

-Matching does not mean you need to be wearing the same colors (says the girl that matched her dress with her fiancé’s outfit as well as the background. See photo below). Just try and keep it all within the same color scheme OR just keep all the tones neutral with at least one bold accessory or clothing piece.

-Wear neutral colored pants (black, white, jeans, etc.) and shoes. Then, keep a plain shirt on throughout the entire shoot and just keep switching out of different tops. For example, I wore jeans and a plain black long-sleeve and just threw a sweater over it. In between shots I would switch out of that sweater and throw on a cardigan or a vest. This gives you multiple different looks in a short period of time. Plus, no changing rooms necessary so that’s a definite plus!

-Props! I know this isn’t necessarily a fashion tip but I think sometimes props are completely forgotten about because people spend their time worrying about the outfits. Balloons, bubbles, streamers, flowers, confetti, etc. All of these add so much movement and originality to your photos. Plus, if you’re one of those people that doesn’t know what to do with your hands during a photo then these will be a lifesaver.

-This one isn’t necessarily a fashion tip either but during your session don’t feel the need to be so posed. I know as future brides, we spend hours (or days!) on Pinterest scrolling through the most perfect engagement photos and hoping to mimic those exact looks. But I guarantee the photos you’ll love best are the shots that were taken in between when you didn’t realize the photographer was shooting. So while you’re in front of the camera just keep moving, laughing, and joking around with each other.

Also, don’t sweat the small stuff! I had gotten my hair done the morning of our engagement photos. I told the stylist I wanted voluminous waves and I walked out of there with tight Shirley Temple curls. I complained to my fiancé during the entire two hour drive to our photo shoot all the while he was assuring me I look great no matter what. I could tell I was really putting a damper on this experience for the both of us so I finally just sucked it up and pretended that I didn’t look like a poodle (luckily my hair can’t hold curls anyways so it fell flat before we started shooting).

In the end, the goal is to get nice pictures to show off but the engagement photos are also a small part of the whole ‘being engaged/wedding’ experience and you’ll want to remember it as a fun one that you can cherish when you look back at these photos.

Have fun and be yourselves!

P.S. These photos were taken by the amazing Cassandra Oldenburg with Narrowleaf Photography and you can check out more of her work here!

New Boutique Alert!

Ever since I’ve started up my blog I’ve had the chance to discover so many stylish and original boutiques! I love that many of the clothing pieces that are sold at these shops can’t be found anywhere else. Also it’s great to know that your money is going towards small businesses and creative professionals that rely solely on you in order for them to continue their fabulous work!

This week I’m raving about SoTaupe Boutique! Their clothing and accessories are edgy and make some serious statements!

Currently I’m loving my clear lens round glasses from SoTaupe! I remember back in middle school I was mortified to learn that I needed glasses. I only wore them when I needed to out of fear of being dubbed ‘four eyes’ and I presented the idea of contacts to my parents every day for the next five years until they caved. Who knew that glasses would become my favorite fashion accessory?!

Whenever I pair these glasses with my ‘GIRL BOSS’ tank from SoTaupe I feel like I can rule the world. I’ve noticed in my short time as a blogger that blogging is a full time job and it really is like running a business and being your own ‘boss’! I love the strength and empowerment that I’ve found in blogging and in meeting others with the same passion. Every girl needs a ‘GIRL BOSS’ shirt whether you really do oversee a business/brand or not. Because we all have dreams that we’re trying to reach and the work we put in to that dream every day is means enough to be recognized.

So… Are you looking for the latest power statement piece to add to your closet? Check out SoTaupe Boutique’s website here!

You Wear What You Eat

I’m not really sure when it became a thing to wear fruit but I’m actually loving this new trend! It makes a statement with its bold colors and patterns.

I’ve been getting a lot of compliments on this lemon patterned dress that I scored at H&M! I love that the fit is so flattering and you can dress it up or down depending on the shoes and accessories you pair it with. I also love the price! I was able to snag this piece for under $10!

I probably won’t be rocking avacado leggings anytime soon. But as for this lemon dress I am completely sold!

Let me know what you think about this new trend!

Sincerely,

Savanna

Back to the Basics

Since I’m just starting up this blog I think I should begin with the basics: wardrobe essentials.

These wardrobe essentials are quick fixes to any outfit that needs a finishing touch. Or on your lazy days (ahem, Mondays) you can piece them all together to create a laid back and easy style.

  1. Plain white t-shirt: And stock up! I can’t even count how many plain white t-shirts I’ve owned in my lifetime. Plain white t-shirts have a reputation for never staying bright white for too long, so I wouldn’t necessarily splurge on this particular wardrobe essential. Also, try and mix things up. Buy multiple t-shirts in different necklines (v-neck, scoop necks, etc.) and fits (baggy or tight fitting). I highly recommend checking out H&M’s ‘Basics’ section where you can mix and match basic tees and tanks for 2 for $10.
  2. Jean jacket: My jean jackets have been a lifesaver when I piece together an outfit but want to dress it down a bit and create a more casual look. And I truly believe that jean jackets will never go out of style because there are so many different ways to wear them (even the denim on denim look is coming back!). Pair them with a cute dress for a casual dinner date or rock your jean jacket with black skinnies and combat boots for a last-minute concert outfit (yes, spontaneous concert ticket splurges come up more frequently than you’d think).
  3. Little black dress: This one is pretty self-explanatory. LBDs have been a closet staple since forever. Why? Because black is everyone’s color. It’s definitely go-to when you’ve completely run out of options, time, or patience. Dress it up with a pair of pumps and diamond earrings or dress it down with flats and a cute cardigan. This piece works for literally any occasion. Need I say more?
  4. Statement accessories: Do you ever have those days when you want to look put together but all you want to wear is a t-shirt and jeans? This is where statement accessories come into play. Whether it’s a bulky necklace or colorful earrings you’ll give the illusion that you didn’t actually press snooze on your alarm 10 times and woke up with 5 minutes left to get ready.
  5. Black dress pants: For those job interviews where you question what kind of look is appropriate. You can never go wrong with black dress pants and cute flats.
  6. A good pair of jeans: Skinny jeans are ‘in’ right now but that shouldn’t stop you from rocking some flared or boot-cut jeans to  mix it up. As long as you feel great in them (and they make your butt look good) then that’s all that matters. This is one staple wardrobe piece that I would definitely splurge on. Because a good pair of jeans will last you years and save your butt (literally) from the squats that you were supposed to be doing every night but instead ended up binge watching your recent Netflix find.
  7. Ballet flats: I’ve already mentioned how these staple wardrobe pieces can pull an entire outfit together. They work for almost any occasion and you can create so many different looks with them. I might even dedicate an entire blog post about all of the different looks you can put together with a good pair of flats!
  8. Chic sunglasses: I think you can probably catch on to how hard it can be for me to get dressed in the mornings. But nothing does more wonders than a pair of chic sunglasses. If you’re anything like me, some days you just can’t match the wings of your eyeliner or your outfit is feeling a bit bland. Sunglasses make all of those problems disappear. If you’re nothing like me and your outfits are always on point and your make up is always even then a good pair of sunglasses will only enhance your already perfect look!
  9. Sneakers: Comfy and cute. Sneakers are my all time favorite. Mainly because they allow me to walk more than 10 steps without my feet hurting and they add a sense of casual-cute to my look. If you’re looking for recommendations on where to get a cute pair of sneakers check out my last post ‘Pastel As Well’ for a great steal!
  10. Pumps: I’ll be honest. Unlike most people I wasn’t genetically blessed with normal sized feet. Most of the time my feet are too small to fit into any cute heels or pumps (I’m a size 5 on a good day). But what I love about pumps is that you can wear them with jeans or a little black dress and you automatically look stunning and sophisticated. I’ve never seen a shoe that makes as big of a statement as pumps do!

So there you have it. Here are all of my wardrobe essentials that I believe can save you from having to constantly ask, “What should I wear today?” You could probably live off of these 10 items and create a new look for each day of the week if you wanted to.

Thanks for reading and let me know what your wardrobe essentials are!

Xoxo

Chic Tees

Most people that know me know that I used to never want to be caught in a t-shirt but lately they’ve been forcing themselves on me with their cute designs and flattering cuts.

What I’m really excited about this week are my new tees from Sassy Queen. They’re comfy, cute, and give off just the right amount of attitude. I’m always really hesitant to rock tops with wording or sayings but these tees are everything a fashionista needs in her closet. The thing I  love most about Sassy Queen is that their tops can be worn in different ways. Wear it casually with jeans and wedges or dress it up with pearls and pumps (which is hard to pull off with most t-shirts!).

If you’re looking for the perfect versatile piece to add to your closet check out some more of Sassy Queen’s tees here!

Sincerely,

Savanna

Crazy for Kimonos

It’s no secret that the summer heat in Minnesota can get just as bad as desert weather. Let’s be honest, on days that are hot and humid you might just want to dress to keep yourself cool rather than dressing to look good. But why should you have to pick one or the other?

This week I opted for my most recent find, a cute and breezy kimono that I found for under $15 at TJ Maxx. I absolutely love it! The best thing about kimonos is how many outfits you can wear it with. Pair it with a basic t-shirt and jeans or wear it as a swim suit cover up. It adds an instant pop of color! Plus it flows beautifully and dramatically whenever you walk, which just adds more to any signature hair flip (see below).
